Annotations

The bronze is perhaps a Hellenistic work dated to the first century BC and belonged to a Roman villa in Italy before being transported to a villa near Xanten.
During the revolt of the Batavi in 70 A.D. the statue was looted by the Germanic rebels but it sank into the river Rhine.
