Porphyreon was known as an important coastal station between Akka and Antakia in the late Roman province of Phoenice Prima. There is a comprehensive article on the state of the town by Tomasz Waliszewski and Mariusz Gwiazda1, and another by Tomasz B. Waliszewski and Ula Wicenciak2.
