Annotations

Wadi Qassouba, and the related hill about 1 km. east of Byblos is an extended archaeological site. At the western end, there are indications of what may have been the ancient port of Byblos1.2. Further east, around the church Saydet Qassouba, there was a large necropolis, and a Roman era temple on the hill. Inscriptions have been recorded, and some material is in Beirut museum, but a great deal of material was removed from the site, both during the Middle Ages and recently, so that very little appears to remain today3.
