Pincum was one of the Roman strongholds in Upper Moesia on the limes which also included a fortification on the other side of the river. The fortifications was probably held in Roman times by the legio VII Claudia1. There was unearthed stamp of VII Legio. Pincum as Roman camp with civil settlement fluorished under Hadrian. It is mentioned by Procopius of Caesarea as one of the fortifications in the Danube river valley rebuilt by Emperor Justinian2.
