Annotations

Sandstone distance slab on the Antonine wall recording the completion of 4411 feet. The goddess Victory reclines in thestyle of a river-god perhaps an allusion to the nearby River Clyde.

The stone carries the inscription:

IMP C T AE HADRIANO ANTONINO AUG PIO P P VEX LEG XX V V FEC P IIII CDXI

"For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, father of his country, a detachment of the Twentieth Legion Valeria Victrix completed [this work] over a distance of 4411 feet". 1
