The mound of Gözlükule is located in the western part of Çukurova at Tarsus town center (in Mersin Province), in an urban area . The site was excavated by Hetty Goldman in 1934-1938 and 1947. Excavations yielded different artifacts from the Neolithic Age (plaster pieces, obsidian tools and utensils, arrowheads, small spears, ceramics)as well as Chalcolithic urns, jugs and pots, remains of houses. Gözlükule became an important settlement and a port during the 2nd millennium BC. The Bronze Age left us different weapons, seals, remains of the stone and adobe houses. After the fire in this age, the city was surrounded by the walls. Important is a small part of the agreement made between King Isput Ahşu of Kuziwatna and Hittite King Telepinus.
