The modern St. Peter and St. Paulus Church  was built in 1861 on the ruins of a 6th century church. It was built in memory of the two apostles of Jesus. The building was actively used until 1924, that is, until the Syrians from Urfa migrated to Aleppo (Syria). Written tombstones unearthed in the church are in the Urfa Museum. The church was restored by the Şanlıurfa Governorship in 1998 and opened as the “Governor Kemalettin Gazezoğlu Cultural Center” on May 24, 2002.
