Saint George Church (or Black Priest ) of Diyarbakır is located on the high rocks of the Inner Castle overlooking the Tigris River. Although there is no exact information regarding the construction date of the church, it is thought to have been built in the 3rd century AD. According to Joseph Strzygowski it was a Nestorian church built in the 4th century, restored in 518 by Anastasius, and converted into a mosque in the 14th or 15th century.
