Its first known name was Lagania, meaning "land of rock peaks" when it was a village of the Tectosagae in Galatia. During the Roman period Beypazarı was located on important historical passageways between Constantinople, Ancyra and Baghdad.Lagania was the episcopacy center of the Byzantine Empire. The name of the city was changed to Lagania - Anastasiopolis (Anastasios City) in order to honour the visit of the Eastern Roman Emperor Anastasios, who ruled between 491-518.
