The "Agyasma" site discovered near modern village of Makrigialos in N Greece was a flat -lying Late Neolithic settlement. It was more popular type of Neolithic settlement than tell type sites.

Pydna was first mentioned by the Greek historian Thucydides The remains of the ancient polis from the classical, Hellenistic and possibly pre-Greek periods are partly under the Byzantine walls.
