Annotations

The brick museum in the Alte Ziegelei in Mainz-Bretzenheim presents a rich collection of bricks from 4 millennia.
It opened in 2004 and provides a comprehensive overview of the topic based on original finds and illustrations and explanatory texts.

The extensive Roman collection contains brick stamps of the legions stationed in Mainz, prints of animal paws and a nailed Roman shoe and the various components of Roman building ceramics.

There is space in the spacious loft for the exhibition of roof coverings, brick bandages, water pipes, display panels and numerous illustrations. There is a Roman brick tomb, in a showcase is our oldest brick from 2000 BC, and we also show a cuneiform fragment of Nebuchadnezzar II, from the Step Pyramid of Babylon, the Tower of Babel.
