The remains of the Greek trade colony on the Mediterranean coast of northern Syria, in the estuary of the Orontes River, currently in Hatay Province of Turkey was identified by Leonard Woolley with Herodotus' Posideion. According to Robin Lane Fox it was Diodorus Siculus` Potamoi Karon/Potami Caron 1.
