Annotations

Ancient town Coela  was founded  in the Roman period. It was a bishopric  seat depending on Heracleia in antiquity, and is now a Latin Catholic titular see. Ancient Coela is located in the western part of Gallipoli Peninusla, the southern part of the Thracian Chersonese, 5 km east of Eceabat. The  remains of the  Justinian fortification are still visible.
