According to excavations that have been carried out, Dyme was created by the union of the communes that previously existed there. Another name for Dyme was Palea and Kafkonia, as Strabo tells us. The goddess Athena was the patroness of the city and was also called Cleidouchos. From the city was Pataikos, who won the Olympic Games in the 71st Olympiad in 496 BC.
