Cypsela (Greek: Κύψελα) is the name of an ancient Greek city in Thrace. According Starbo Kypsela was located near the border of what was once Macedonia, 120 stadia from the mouth of the Hebreus River1.According to Polyenus, Cypsela was besieged by a certain Antiochus—perhaps Antiochus II Theos, who died in the middle of the 3rd century BC—who had many Thracians in his army, whom he provided with gold and silver ornaments. The Thracians of Cypsela, who were also Thracians, when they saw their own people wearing such ornaments, considered that they were happy with Antiochus, laid down their weapons, and became his allies.Cypsela was one of the cities conquered by Philip V of Macedon ca 200 BC in the Cretan War (205–200 BC).
