Nisibis (Greek Νίσιβις; modern Nusaybin): ancient town in Mesopotamia, famous for its late-Roman school. See http://www.livius.org/ne-nn/nisibis/nisibis.html. The school was founded ca 350 by Jacob of Nisibis (Mar Yaqub -St Jacobus) according the pattern of the school of Diodorus of Tarsus in Antioch.
