The site is consideried to be identified with the ancient city of Tushpa or Tushpan in order to determine the location of the provincial palace founded by the Assyrian King Assurnasirpal I during the first quarter of the IX century BC1. According to K. Korgolu it is a place of ancient Tidu2 mentioned in Nimrud Monolith.
