Annotations

Akköprü, bridge over the Indos (Dalaman Çayı) River, on an old road from Kaunos to Kibyratis, 30 km northeast of Kaunos in NW Lycia. *Hist. A two-arched, late Ottoman bridge (a flattened brick pointed arch over the river, a small round arch on the right bank; total bridge width 4.05 m, roadway 2.90 m) over the river, which is deeply cut into the conglomerate rock. Bridge piers with triangular heads facing the river, ancient ashlar blocks probably reused in the base, several repairs, slightly stepped paved path. An ancient river crossing cannot be ruled out.* At the bridge is an old cemetery; the road from Beyobasi shows traces of an old path near the high bank, and at a narrow pass is a ruined late Ottoman han (rectangular building). On the left (east) bank of the river, the path climbs in steep switchbacks to the adjacent rocky ridge.1
