The Mor Gabriel Monastery [Dayro d-Mor Gabriel]  was founded by Mor Şemuel -Samuel and his pupil Mor Şemu -Simon  in 397 in the north-east of the village of Yayvantepe, formerly Kartmin, in the Southeastern Anatolia. Region, which Syriac authors termed Turabdin (Mardin-Midyat region).
