Kaunos ancient port city is situated on the western coast of the Dalyan (Calbis) River. Its history dates back to the Xth century BC. There were two harbours from the Archaic Period until the middle of the Hellenistic Period: Inner Harbour - currently Suluklu Lake and the Southern Harbour.
