  1. Jean Briand, The Judeo-Christian Church of Nazareth, Franciscan Printing Press, Jerusalem 1984 4th. ed., p. 51-58.

According to tradition the Church of St Joseph in Nazareth is built over the carpentry workshop of the husband of the Virgin Mary or over the house of the Holy Family -according to later tradition. The cave was used by the early dwellers in the Roman period as a water or food storage under the house, which is typical of the residential houses at that time.
