Annotations

10 metres to the north-west of the temple of Venus is a second temple with a very large altar abutting onto the perimeter wall of the sanctuary to the east. A dedication to the Muses has been suggested Aliquot gives this as temple D1. Livius provides a good photograph and classifies it as a first-century pseudoperipteral structure2.
