Helike, the city of Achaea was founded in the Bronze Age-the Mycenaean period by Ion. It is mentioned in the Homerus Catalogue of Ships.  The patron god of Helike, Poseidon Helikonios, god of the sea and the earthquakes. Strabo recorded that Helike “was wiped out by a wave of the sea” (Geographica, B. 8 Ch. 7:2)
