Clazomenae is one of the most ipmortant Ionian cities, because we can observe its history Chalcolithic and Proto Geometric periods through the Archaic and Classical periods. The first i.e. the oldest cultural layer belongs to the Early Bronze Age and dates from IIIrd millenium BC.
The prehistoric settlement was discovered in 1950 by Prof. Dr. Ekrem Akurgal and the first scientific investigations were carried out by Prof. Dr. Güven Bakir from Ege University.
