The Byzantine church located to the south of the theatre was built in the 5th/6th century AD. It was a three-aisled basilica with a narthex at the west end, an ambo in the center, and a synthronon in the east. It was eventually abandoned in 1300. Basilica has been excavated by Theodor Wiegand in the late nintinth century and later in 1995 and 1996. The researches revealed three phase of the church construction.
