Annotations

Tomba del Cardinale was discovered in 1699, then lost and rediscovered in 1780 by Cardinal Garampi, bishop of Tarquinia. It dates back to 510-500 BC. Inscriptions on the walls indicate the tomb belongs to the noble Vestarcnie family, related to the important Spurinna gens, and of which a descendant, Vestricius Spurinna, will be twice a consul of Rome in the age of flavia1.
