Teos was known with marble quarries. Quarry of black-red-green-white marble known in antiquity as Marmor  Luculleum refering to Roman General and consul Lucullus who introduced this type of marble to Rome Major marble export was made to Rome. Marble from Teos was named also as Africano referring to black slaves working at the quarries.
