The necropolis of the San Cerbone -Casone was a cemetery of Populonia.
There are three types of graves in there:

The "burial mounds", dating from the VII century BC, are family graves of to the dominant aristocratic families in the city - the so-called "warrior princes"
-
The aediculae or "shrine shaped tombs" apeared in the VI century BC,used for a long period of time. They had the shape of a small temple and had some statues as decorations also. These belonged to the important families of the Populonia.

The " sarcophagus tombs" started in the VI century BC.
