Aizanoi was an ancient city located in western Anatolia. The ruins of Aezani/Aizanoi were discovered by European travellers in 1824. Aizanoi printed the first coins in the second and first centuries. It the main settlement of Aizanitis. According to tradition, Aizanoi was founded by Azan, a mythical hero and forefather of the Phrygians living along the river Penkalas (Kocaçay), one of three sons of the legendary king Arkas and the nymph Erato. The site was inhabited in the Bronze Age period i.e. the third millenium BC. Aizanoi was divided by Penkalas River( Kocaçay) in two parts. During the Roman period there were four bridges to connect both parts of the town.
