In the I. century A.D., a new roman town Fulfinum was built for the needs of the veterans of the Flavian emperors. Municipium Flavium Fulfinum was built according to the usual town-planning scheme: on a flat area with rectangular communication lines. The navigable bay made possible the construction of a protected harbour, while the fertile soil rich in water sources was a base for the development of the town. The town had all the facilities needed for life in the antiquity: a forum with the Capitol and the basilica, port facilities with the commercial quarter, thermae, suburban communication lines with cemeteries and the water supply system.
