Kanytelleis is an ancient cult area and the kome of Elauissa Sebaste. It has been populated since the Hellenistic period, later in habited by Romans and early Byzantines. The is a Hellenistic tower dates back to Hellenistic time dedicated to Zeus Olbios by the king of Olba Teukros and the son of Tarkyares. The monumental grave of Princess Aba, who was the ally of Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra, is also in Kanytelleis. There are several relievos either in the pothole or in the necropolis area. There are 5 churches date back to early Byzantine period. Kanytelleis is known to the pothole that Zeus brought Typhon from the Korykion Cave and smashed his head.
