Roman Fortification. Last Imperial periods,IV century AD, created to control and defense of the Via Augusta, which passed through the gorge.Some reforms, maintaining that fortress lasted until the eighth century. The present population was always small, until they ended leaving and moved to the next city of Gerunda.
