After the earthquaqe in 60 AD. Hierapolis was rebuild and became an important center because of its commercial and religious position. In 80 A.D. St. Philip came to Hierapolis and was murdered by his tribesmen. After the legalization of Christianity in 313,, a martyrdom was built in the name of St. Plilippus. It has an octagonal plan with a diameter of 20 metres.
