Amelia is located in the south-west of Umbria, near the border with Lazio. Amelia, formerly named Ameria, according to the mythology founded by King Ameroe, is cited by Pliny in book III of the Naturalis historia. He mentioned tyhat Ameria was founded 963 years before the Roman war against Perseus (r. 179–168 BC), king of Macedonia, and therefore in 1134 BC1.
