Vicus of Great Chesters (Aesica). It was first recognised by Horsley in 1732 and is situated to the south-east of the fort. The remains have never been scientifically excavated and the layout is poorly understood. The only identifiable features are building platforms and terraces with rubble. The large field to the south of the fort should contain remains of the settlement; however, it has been heavily ploughed and there are no surveyable earthworks except for a slight earthwork platform1.

Südlich und westlich des Glacis des Kastells breitete sich eine Zivilsiedlung (vicus) aus. Ihre Überreste wurden nie wissenschaftlich untersucht, daher ist über sie nur sehr wenig bekannt. Die einzigen noch identifizierbare Merkmale sind ihre einst künstlich aufgeschütteten Plattformen und Terrassen. Auf einem Feld südlich des Kastells waren ebenfalls Reste der Siedlung beobachtet worden. Sie dürften aber durch die intensive landwirtschaftliche Nutzung des Areals schon weitgehend zerstört sein. Auch auf Luftaufnahmen sind die Konturen der Gebäude südlich der Festung und östlich der vom Südtor ausgehenden Straße zu sehen.
