The Roman city of Pollentia was founded on the north-eastern coast of Mallorca (Balearic archipelago) after the Roman conquest of the island in 123 BC according to Strabo (3.5.1), it was founded by Caecilius Metellus Balearicus with 3000 Roman colonists.

Pollentia (die Mächtige) war der römische Hauptort auf Mallorca (erst die Mauren verlegten das Zentrum nach Palma). Bedeutend waren die beiden Häfen: Der große Hafen in der Bucht von Alcudia und der kleine Hafen in der Bucht von Pollensa.
