Tell Açana (Tell Atchana) is the modern name of the ancient site of Alalakh. The was excavated by a British team led by Sir Leonard Wolley in years 1937-1939 and after World War II 1946-1949. A second round of excavations began in 2000. Alalakh was probably destroyed by the Sea People in the 12th century BC
