The ancient Hellenistic and Roman town of Ourania was located almost certainly at Aphentrika (or Aphendrika) on the Karpas peninsula in northeastern Cyprus. The small sheltered bay to the north has been plausibly identified as its harbor, with plenty of ceramic remains. Modern agricultural plots preserve an orientation parallel or perpendicular to the ancient Roman road. Three early medieval churches stand in various stages of ruin near the foot of the ridge to the south, which in turn accommodated a now largely invisible acropolis, of which there are still a few rock-cut remains.
