Anmerkungen

Ancient Lysimacheia was not located at Ortaköy (with Heximilion) or at Bakla Burnu (with Kardia), as previously proposed, but lay in the wide area of Hellenistic and Roman settlement remains stretching between the southern edges of Bolayır and the Demirtepe. The city was founded by the Macedonian governor (later king) of Thrace Lysimachos in 309 BC. The town survived until the 14th century, when it was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1343, and subsequently declined and was abandoned.
