Annotations

What is now called the Alabaster Tomb is the remaining core of an impressive third-century BCE monumental grave. It is a modestly-sized rectangular chamber constructed out of large polished blocks of Egyptian alabaster - hence the name. The appearance of the outside has been wildly speculated upon: either the chamber was covered by a tumulus, sheathed by roughly-hewn stone blocks, or fronted by a temple-like facade.1
