The site of the major pre-Columbian city of Azcapotzalco. It was the main center of the Tepaneca until its sack in 1428, after which its importance declined, and the chief Tepaneca polity was centered on Tlacopan to the south. There are few visible remains of pre-Columbian Azcapotzalco today, but the main temple was located under the Spanish cathedral of Santos Apóstoles Felipe y Santiago.
