The Templo Mayor was the main temple pyramid of the Mexica (Aztec) capital Tenochtitlan, capped by the twin sanctuaries of the gods Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc. The structure was established presumably at the same time as the city in c. 1325 or 1345, and was refurbished and expanded with the additions of new layers a total of seven times, before the Spanish conquest in 1521.
