Annotations

The marble columns have been reused from the remains of some pre-existing Roman building, possibly a temple. The capitals that crown the columns and support the horseshoe arches that separate the naves are sculpted in a Corinthian Roman tradition. San Juan de Baños represents a perfect reflection of the Visigoth kingdom within a Hispano-Roman and Germanic duality. (Pedro Palol, archaeologist and professor of Prehistory at the universities of Valladolid and Barcelona)
