Roman villa found in 1994 by a farmer who did not report the finding.

later the authorities were warned by an anonymous peasant and in 1995 archaeologists discovered the great mosaic with Homer and the nine muses exhibited today in the MNHA Musée national d'histoire et d'art Luxembourg.

Built around 240 AD, the mosaic of the Roman villa at Vichten is the work of a specialized workshop in Trier that produced other masterpieces at the same time. It presents in its main part the mythological and literary subject of the nine Muses, daughters of the master of the gods Zeus and the goddess of memory Mnemosyne.

In the large central medallion is Calliope, Muse of epic and elegiac poetry, in the company of the prince of poets, Homer. The mosaic of Vichten, one of the most beautiful representations of the theme of the nine known Muses of the Roman world, is an eloquent example of the philosophical and literary culture of the elites of the cities of Roman Gaul.
