Hittite town of Nerikka as an important religious centre. The temple, a monumental building ca. 47 x 43.5 m, excavated between 2007 and 2015 stood on the highest point of the site. The temple was build two times. The Old Temple (c. 17th/16th–15th/14th centuries BC) was destroyed and abandoned for a century and half. The New Temple (c. 1260/1230–1180 BC) was erected over the ruins of the original sanctuary. Dedication of the temple was prooved by the red-slipped bull figures - bull-shaped cultic vessels interpreted generally as representations of the Storm God himself or of his bull companions Seri and Hurri.
