The Exedra of the Epigones is a semi-circular building dedicated by the Argives in honour of the Epigones, the successors of the Seven against Thebes, who avenged the death of their fathers. These seven heroes of Argos unsuccessfully besieged the city of Thebes. Ten years after the Seven had foughht alongside Polynices for the throne of Thebes, Epigones conquered the city and gave the kingdom to Thersander, son of Polynices.
