Annotations

The mosaic of the fifth or sixth century unearthed in southern part of Adana city has been transferred to the laboratory department at museum complex at Adana’s historic National Textile Factory. The large large (15 x 8 meters) mosaic has a geometric border. It depicts 16 wild and domestic animals, including a wolf, sheep, leopard, goat, bull, lion, bear and snake, peacefully staying together, sleeping side by side, sharing food and grazing according to the cited fragment of  Isaiah 65.25 in Greek: “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.”
