Qasr al-Hayr

Qasr al-Hayr al-Gharbi is a Syrian Umayyad palace complex or “desert castle” that was excavated during the 1930s by Daniel Schlumberger. First thought to be a Roman fort, it was only after excavations that an Umayyad date was recognised.
