Brundisum./Brindisium. Messapium city conquered by the Romans in 266 BC. During the Roman period it was a strategically important harbour city. It was also the final point of the Via Appia. In 40 BC Octavian and Antony closed a treaty in Brindisium. The poet Virgil died in Brindisi.1
