Achaemenid and Hellenistic settlement. Rectangular mound, badly damaged in recent times, and better visible on Corona imagery (1972). Thought to be the original findspot of the "Oxus Treasure".

Achaemenid & Hellenistic settlement. Reduced to its citadel in Kushan times. Excavated by Pichikyan & Litvinsky (1976-1991), and Drujinina (1998). Probable town of Oxeiana in Ptolemy's Geography.

Oxus Temple (4 km)

Monumental Hellenistic temple, in the middle of the citadel, probably financed by the royal house of the Seleucids, to act as a regional sanctuary. Dedicated to the Oxus river. Excavated by Pichikyan & Litvinsky (1976-1991), and Drujinina (1998)
